Beck, Song reader is released.

The compilation album Beck, song reader was released yesterday.

Back in 2012, when he was taking a break from recording proper albums, Beck released Song Reader, an “album” made up of nothing but sheet music. And after refusing to play the songs in public for a long time, he staged a couple of big Song Reader concerts in London and L.A. Many of the famous friends who helped out at those events have now contributed to the official studio version of Song Reader, which is as much a compilation as a Beck album. On the recorded version, Beck only sings one song, “Heaven’s Ladder.” Elsewhere, other people take on the songs that Beck wrote. Contributors include Jack White, Jarvis Cocker, Tweedy, Fun., Norah Jones, Laura Marling, Eleanor Friedberger, Jason Isbell, and Jack Black. And if you’ve got Spotify, you can stream the whole album below.

The new Rodney Crowell-Emmylou Harris duet album

Triple R radio Melbourne spoke to Joe Henry on the Phone while he was in Nashville to record The new Rodney Crowell-Emmylou Harris duet album.

He spoke briefly about this recording :

a couple of things :
- most of the songs are newly written
- it was recorded live in 1 room
- recordings took place at Sound Emporium
- They recorded mostly with their touringband

Listen to it as of approx. 1:25:00 over here.

Update July 31

Rodney Crowell gave us a view on his July month on TwitLonger

Quote :
The first day of July 2014, Emmylou Harris and I picked up where we left off writing songs for a new duet album. A few days later, Billy Payne and Joe Henry joined Emmylou, myself and Glory Band in a Nashville recording studio. Steuart Smith dropped in for a few days, as did Larry Franklin. And in a week’s time, the album was close to finished. With Joe at the helm and Justin Niebank manning the recording desk, Jerry Roe, Byron House, Jedd Hughes, Steve Fishell, Chris Tuttle and the abovementioned guest musicians made Emmy’s job and mine---singing in tune and with honest conviction---a relatively simple task. The plan is to reconvene for a couple of days in October and complete the record.

Update November 1

Rodney put the following message on his Facebook about all the things that where on his agenda, this last month.

...Two days later, Emmylou and I, along with our producer Joe Henry and a studio band featuring Steuart Smith, Jerry Roe, Byron House, Chris Scruggs and Larry Franklin, were back in the studio recording a song that would complete our follow-up duet record. Damn fine record, I must say...

JH Recording in Ireland

It seems like Joe is working on a new project :
Update 25/07 : according to a tweet by Drummer Graham Hopkins, it will be an album 'Caitríona O'Leary &guests'.

Update 26/07 : Caitríona O'Leary's Management agency LAM confirmed that it will indeed be a project around Caitríona and guests. The exact title remains to be found. (Thank you for this info)

Update 27/07 : from Rhiannon Laffan's facebook.

Original Post
After a few hinting tweets, Rosanne Cash tweeted the following message and picture :

Earlier on John Smith tweeted the following picture :

Acdording to tweets by Drummer Graham Hopkins, the recordings are finished and took place in Grouse Lodge.
You can find a long list of artists who recorded there : including : Muse, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, Manic Street Preachers, Doves,  R.E.M. Bonnie Raitt, Stereophonics, Michael Jackson, Liam Clancy, The Editors,...

Some of the musicians mentioned in these tweets :

There is off course Rosanne Cash and Tom Jones but also the following

Donal Lunny is an Irish folk musician

Caitríona O'Leary is internationally known for her performances of Early music and traditional Irish song.

Rhiannon Giddens is known as the lead singer, violinist, banjo player and a founding member of the  Carolina Chocolate Drops. (Joe Henry produced their album 'Genuine Negro Jig')

Gregg Cohen is a Bass player best known for his work with Tom Waits mostly in the 80's. Currently he's working mostly with John Zorn

Rosanne Cash spoke in her tweet about the Wexford Carols :

The Wexford Carols :

The Wexford Carol is a beloved traditional Irish Christmas carol. It is also known as "The Enniscorthy Carol", as it was originally collected by a folklorist named Grattan Flood in Enniscorthy, a town in Ireland's County Wexford, as well as "Carul Loch Garman" (the Irish translation of "Wexford Carol"). The lyrics, which are in English, date back to the 12th century. As is the case with all very old songs, the history is a bit hard to track, but it appears that the lyrics were added to the tune much later, and it is not believed that the lyrics were originally in the Irish language. Some reverse translations have been made by contemporary Irish trad musicians, but the English lyrics are actually the most traditional ones.
