Life in Music inspired by Joe Henry

Orphan songs

Yes, the name of this page refers to Tom Waits' fabulous triple box called orphans. That already brings you the purpose of this page on Joe's music. I still find it the most wonderful title to describe the collection you'll find here.

Songs that you can not find on Joe's official albums. And there are some....

If you found other songs not on this list, Feel free to contact me me.

Regards,
Stefan

ATO records has the song on soundcloud.

  • Bessie Smith
Joe contributed this song to the album 'Endless Highway, the music of the band' for which he also produced a track by Jakob Dylan.
You can listen to the track on the official website. (choose music, and then bonustracks)

When you want to buy the album including this track make sure to get a version with the bonustracks, not all of the releases have them.

  • Red River Valley (Duet with Lisa Hannigan)
Allthough this is a duet, I place it in this category. The song was recorded for volume 1 of the78project.
I believe this a 'must have' album.

The 78 project is a project inspired by Alan Lomax. They record songs in 1 take with 1 Microphone and etch it directly to a lacquer disc. (Just like in the old days)

Joe and Lisa's song was not only part of the album, it is also online as a video. It's verry interesting to see the proces.

The 78 Project is a documentary and recording journey inspired by Alan Lomax and his quest to capture music where it lived throughout the early 20th century. Our project brings the spirit of his work into the present as we pair breakthrough musicians with the songs and the fascinating recording technology of the past. With just one microphone, one authentic 1930′s Presto direct-to-acetate disk recorder, and one blank lacquer disc, musicians are given one take to cut a record anywhere they choose. What we have found is that the film, music and feelings that result defy space and time, living music inspired by ghosts. - See more at: http://the78project.com/about/#sthash.Exxbdj3k.dpuf

They recorded a 'flipside' song for this recording, which did not make the album, but was filmed.  It's 'Little birds' by Lisa Hannigan. (which will return in the duets section).
